Civan (b. 1999, Tikrit, Iraq) is an Kurdish-Iraqi artist based in As Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. Working across cyanotype, printmaking, drawing, and Multidisiplinery practices, his work originates from an ongoing interest in how individuals develop their understanding of the world. He is particularly concerned with the influence of upbringing, geography, culture, personal decisions, and circumstance on the formation of character and perception.

His practice approaches art as a meeting point between different realities. While people may share the same environment, they experience and interpret it through vastly different personal frameworks. Rather than attempting to resolve these differences, Civan treats them as a subject of investigation. His work often draws from questions surrounding self-awareness, the unknown motivations behind human behavior, and the distance between how people see themselves and how they are shaped by forces they may not fully recognize.

This interest extends into his methods of making. Through experimental processes, he establishes conditions from which an artwork can emerge while allowing materials, environmental factors, and chance to influence the final result. Instead of exercising complete control, he works in collaboration with the process itself. For Civan, the relationship between artist, material, and outcome reflects the same uncertainty, complexity, and individuality that characterizes human experience.
